Sunday Morning Emergency Plan

Lakeland Police – (440) 525-7241

Fire Drill

PAC - will exit the building and go to the Clocktower. Parents should head directly to the Clocktower,  do not go upstairs to find your children - they will have been evacuated and headed toward the Clocktower.

Active Threat

When the announcement has been made in the PAC, keep calm, quiet and out of sight by laying low to the ground or kneeling down between the rows of seats and keep your head as low as possible. Silence cell phones and do not contact anyone during the early stages of the threat.

If possible, all doors should be barricaded. If you do not know where the shooter is, it would be best to stay put and don’t run. People should remain out of sight until given the all clear by police.

Parents in the PAC must resist the inclination to go to the LakeKids classrooms. People moving from one location to another will be vulnerable targets and they may also lead the shooter to the classrooms. Trust the teachers/workers to do everything they can to protect your children. The classroom doors will remain locked until the police have given the all clear.

How you should react when law enforcement arrives:

• Remain calm and follow instructions.

• Avoid pointing, screaming/yelling.

• Immediately raise hands and spread fingers if asked to do so.

• Do not stop to ask officers for help or direction when evacuating, just proceed in the direction from which officers are entering the premises.

• Keep hands visible at all times.

If you have the opportunity to contact the Lakeland Police, please provide this information:

• Location of active shooter

• Number and type of weapons held by the shooter(s)

• Number of shooters

• Number of potential victims at the location

• Physical description of shooter(s)

As a last resort and only when your life is in imminent danger, attempt to incapacitate the active shooter. Act with physical aggression and throw items at the active shooter.

We recommend that everyone program the phone number of the Lakeland Police into your cell phones. The Lakeland Police will be able to respond significantly more quickly than calling 911 in an Active Threat situation.

Lake Kids will be taken to the basement where the police department is located. When the all clear is given the children will either head back to the classrooms or will wait for the parents to come to them.

PAC: All persons in the PAC (both downstairs and balcony) should head out the doors and turn right. Proceed past the restrooms to the area where the pop machines and elevator are located (by "H" building). Go into the stairwell to the right of the elevator (as you look at it), and try to go down the stairs as far as possible. Once everyone is as far down as possible, sit on the steps until the threat is over.
